This sloe gin winter fruit crumble is a great little twist on an old classic. The fruit is soaked in the gin which gives it a really lovely flavour with a slightly boozy kick!
The last time I made a crumble was for Dean’s birthday about 5 years ago! When I surprised him with it he thought it was a fish pie because I’d made the mistake of using our fish pie bowl to make it in. To me, it clearly looked like an apple crumble!
We very much got into drinking gin last year, trying different brands and flavoured tonics — 2017 was definitely the year of gin for us! I do think generally it’s more of a summer drink though but that’s where sloe gin comes in to play.
With it being winter and us having a few roast dinners lately I thought I would treat us to a Sunday pudding. We still had quite a bit of sloe gin left from Christmas time so I thought I’d experiment with this recipe. I’m so pleased I did, because this crumble was absolutely delicious!
Dean actually said, “wow I didn’t think it would be this good!” 😂 He now wants me to make it again!
